The NFL Trade Deadline is almost upon us. Unlike other professional sports leagues, there’s normally not a lot of trade buzz when the trade deadline approaches. However, this year we have already seen some trades and rumors involving big-name stars.
Amari Cooper Trade
This was a clear win for the Raiders. Everyone laughed at Jon Gruden when it was declared that they wanted a first-round pick for Amari Cooper, but now as we all know, that’s what they ended up getting. The Raiders now have three first-round picks in the 2019 draft and two first-round picks in the 2020 draft.
So you’re telling me Jerry Jones wouldn’t give up a 2nd rounder for Earl Thomas, but he’ll give up a first for Cooper? I get wide receiver is a position of need for the Cowboys, but Cooper is far from a great receiver. Now, the Cowboys will find out what they have in Dak Prescott. Given that Prescott already has running back Ezekiel Elliot and a stout offensive line he’s is out of excuses. Some have questioned whether he is the long-term solution for Dallas, and now we will find out.
Considering the previous trades that he has made and that the current Raiders look awful, will Gruden trade another key player? Will it be QB Derek Carr? If Carr is indeed available, a team that should take a long look at him is the Jacksonville Jaguars. We all know what Blake Bortles has been dreadful this season, and things have only been worse recently as they benched him for Cody Kessler.
If Jacksonville doesn’t believe that neither Bortles or Kessler is the answer, then a hunt for a quarterback begins. The Jaguars have a great defense; they can’t let it go to waste. If Jacksonville wants Carr, trading a 2nd rounder for him would be fair. However, given Gruden’s recent high demands and the fact that he received a first for Cooper, he’ll likely want more than a 2nd rounder for his starting quarterback.
Le’Veon Bell Trade Rumors
We all assumed Le’Veon Bell would report to the Steelers camp before the season. We all assumed he was going to report during Pittsburgh’s bye week because of a report saying he would do so. However, neither of those things happened. Could the Steelers trade the former Michigan State Spartan? Many assume that no team will want him because he’d just be a one-year rental. However, we could see a similar situation to the Chicago Bears and Khalil Mack, where Bell gets acquired and then immediately commits to that team long-term.
Patrick Peterson Trade Rumors
Earlier this week, Arizona Cardinals cornerback Patrick Peterson expressed his desire for a trade, and the New Orleans Saints were rumored to be his preferred destination. The Saints recently traded a 4th round pick for New York Giants Eli Apple, who has had his fair share of struggles. In total, New Orleans has now dealt their 2019 1st, 3rd and 4th round picks. Because of this trade, don’t expect Peterson to be a Saint, especially since he came out yesterday announcing he still wants to be a Cardinal.
