With all of the uncertainty and volatility in the stock market lately, it’s no wonder that some of us just want to resign to the sofa and watch the upcoming NBA playoffs. However, watching the NBA and trading stocks no longer have to be completely separate activities. Enter SportsStock. SportsStock is an app developed by Dallas based Rehaan Adatia, which acts as a platform for the virtual buying and selling of NBA player shares. The exchange debuted on the app store last week to the tune of over 700 downloads and counting.
SportStock utilizes a custom algorithm to set the price of player shares based on their demand by the market. Though the algorithm seems to be working well, there will always be overvalued and undervalued assets on any exchange and SportStock is no exception. Without further ado, here are 3 players that are worth targeting in week one of SportsStock.
- John Wall
Current Price per Share: 115.56$
Estimated Actual Value: 240$
Analysis: I suppose this one can be tossed up to Wall’s nagging knee injury that kept him out of much of the second half of the season. Nevertheless, while 2017-18 will most likely not be regarded as a career highlight, the star point guard still managed to average 19.4 points and 9.6 assists per game while remaining the face of the Wizards franchise. A current price of 115.56$ just seems too low for the superstar considering its on par with players like Courtney Lee, Lauri Markkanen and John Henson. Wall has averaged over 20 points and 10 assists per game since returning from his injury last week and is trending up by all means. To make matters better, Wall is known for his elite postseason performances, which if continue in next weeks playoff series are sure to drive his stock price way up and get him back on the mind of the common shareholder.
- Nikola Jokic
Current Price per Share: 134.14$
Estimated Actual Value: 225$
Analysis: While it’s normally best practice to avoid players from teams that just missed out on the playoffs, here is an exception. At a price of only 134.14$, the “Joker” is astonishingly undervalued for a player who just finished averaging 18.5 points, 10.7 rebounds and 6.1 assists per game at only 23 years old. Jokic almost single handedly kept the Nuggets in a highly contested Western Conference playoff race despite injuries to the teams 2 best defenders in Paul Millsap and Gary Harris. Investors should pounce on Jokic before its too late and his price rises exponentially.
- Donovan Mitchell
Current Price per Share: 129.92$
Estimated Actual Value: 200$
Analysis: Donovan Mitchell is a 21 year old rookie who just led a Jazz team that was dismissed at the start of the season as a “fringe playoff team” to 5th seed in an historically tough western conference. The 12th pick in last years NBA draft, Mitchell quickly proved that not only does he have a bright future in this league, but also a bright present. The rookie averaged 20.5 points, 3.7 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game in 2017-18 and was the offensive stalwart of a team known for its defense. With a price that puts him in the company of players like Elfrid Payton, and Jordan Clarkson, it is highly recommended that share holders look to the 21 year old rookie before its too late.
