After Georgia Tech upset Virginia Tech last weekend, the Yellow Jackets were looking to become bowl eligible with a win over the Duke Blue Devils. In the first half of the game, Georgia Tech’s offense looked unstable against Duke as the Jackets were able to run at will. In the first half, TaQuon Marshall threw a touchdown pass to A-Back Qua Searcy to get the Jackets on the board early. Marshall would follow that up with a touchdown run of his own and a touchdown run by A-Back JJ Green. While the Jackets offense was able to run all over Duke’s defense, the Yellow Jackets defense struggled mightily against Duke’s offense. The main issues of Tech’s defense were missed tackles and not being able to get hardly any penetration against Duke’s offensive line. Also the Jacket’s defense had missed opportunities early in the game that really could have put Duke in the whole. In the 2nd half, the Duke defense was able to shut down the Jackets offense and the Georgia Tech defense could not get off the field allowing Duke to put up 43 points. The final score was 43-20 giving the Jackets their fifth lost of the season and making their record 5-5.
It is a season like this that really defines the team and a fan base. This team is a young team and it has shown in certain games. Nobody could have predicted this out come just like nobody could have predicted that Tech would only play 11 games this season. However, if you are a true fan then you will stick with this team through thick and thin which why this is the challenge that faces the fans as well as the team. 1999 was the last time Georgia Tech beat in state rival Georgia in Atlanta. The Georgia Bulldogs are 10-1 coming into this game and are looking to take back the state of Georgia after the Jackets erased a 27-14 deficit to beat the Bulldogs 28-27. If Georgia Tech wants to get their sixth win and become bowl eligible then they must come ready just like they did against Virginia Tech. The challenge for the Tech defense is to shut down Georgia’s running game and force freshman quarterback Jack Fromm to beat you with his arm. The challenge for Tech fans is to show and be loud for the players regardless of how many Georgia fans show up. Kickoff between Georgia and Georgia Tech is at noon on ABC.
